Celeste Gramercy, 150 E23rd Street, NYC
Developers’ Confidence Is Rewarded With Stunning Finish by Walking on Wood
Few people would argue with the claim that the flooring is the single most important internal element in any new luxury residential project. The floor has the most use, and of course covers the entire footprint of the property, hence the vital importance of getting it right.
One prime example of getting it right is at the stunning Celeste Gramercy, 150 E23rd Street where Walking on Wood supplied and installed 55,000 SQ FT “Maltese” Walnut engineered planks in a unique, bespoke grey colour. Developed by LKH23rd to a design created by ODA Architecture, Celeste Gramercy is a 20-story premier luxury residential condominium building featuring 51 bespoke one-to-three-bedroom residences and three full-floor Penthouse residences complete with sizable private outdoor terraces and fireplaces, making them ideal for entertaining.

Walking on Wood completed this extensive project without compromising their renowned standards of craftsmanship and excellence. Manufactured in the UK, this shows our capacity and capability for large-scale high-end condominium projects, delivering custom products on budget and on time, as Walking on Wood Managing Director Bo Meftah explained “It was a challenge sourcing the Walnut planks for this project, which wasn’t easy, but we have a unique and extensive range of contacts in the wholesale timber market”. He added ” I am grateful to Kent Cheng for the confidence he placed in our ability to undertake very large developments”.
Project manager Kent Cheng put his faith in Walking On Wood after the Chelsea, London based company with an office and showroom on the Upper East Side had been specified by ODA Architects. ODA requested project references from Walking on Wood knowing that it was a larger job than any previously accomplished by the bespoke timber company. However, as Kent explained when we spoke to him that week; his faith in Walking On Wood was richly rewarded as the company more than matched his expectations.
Unsurprisingly given the standard of finish and attention to detail, the success story at Celeste Grammercy has continued with the sales. All but one of the units now has a buyer, with the Realtors Cantor Pecorella commenting that prospective purchasers invariably mention the superb floors when viewing the properties.
